Pride Buck Store

I have created a Pride Buck Store for the students to shop in every Friday. The students have been able to purchase items with their pride bucks every Friday all year, but the store is a component that ties in with our personal financial literacy unit. The students are expected to have an understanding about availability (the more there is of an item, the lower the price), scarcity (the less there is of an item, the higher the price), income, budget, credit, interest, planned spending, unplanned spending, etc. This is difficult for them to grasp because they do not have much experience with these concepts being only 8 and 9 years old. I am using the Pride Buck Store to create this experience. For example, last week I had a Star Wars calendar, and 2 Star Wars sticker books which were more expensive than all of the other items due to only having 3 Star Wars items. After the students shopped I was left with 1 Star Wars sticker book which originally cost 350  pride bucks. After a class discussion, we realized we should increase the price of the sticker book because of scarcity. This sticker book now cost 500 pride bucks. I hope to continue this the rest of the year, but will need to have items for the students to purchase. Single items or groups of items are helpful. I purchased these items in the Target dollar bin, the party favor section, and the Valentine's section (they have 25-30 items per bag for $3). You can also find items at the Dollar Store or send in gently used items from home (Old books, sunglasses, notebooks, etc.) Thanks for your constant support!!
